It's not too late!

We're getting a lot of calls in Admissions asking if it's too late to apply for Fall 2007. There's still plenty of time to apply, but don't let a lot of grass grow. Classes start in less than a month.

If you want to apply online, just go to the Admissions web page. We download new apps every morning. Just be sure to have a printer connected. There's a page at the end you'll need to print, sign, and send in.

Of course we still do things the old fashioned way too. As we get closer to classes starting for fall, you might want to make plans to stop by. Snail mail can slow down your admission process, so doing it in person is a great option. You can drop by the Admissions Office in the Ramer Building, and we'll help you fill out your app.

Whoever said goin' to college was easy?!%

Whew! I am pooped! It's about that time of year. . . where exactly did the summer go? I feel like we just started school but wait. . . that was last YEAR! YIKES! Where has time gone? There are 26 days until the first day of school! Is anyone feeling stressed? I know how hard it can be to get ready for college---Hi! My name is Heather Harper. I am an Admissions Advisor here at the college.

What is an Admissions Advisor? Well, I talk to the prospective students about coming to school and basically try to answer all those questions that you may have! No question is a bad question! It's hard to know what to do if you've never been to college before---so, are you thinking about coming to school but not sure if you have time? Well, school starts August 27, 2007 and it's not too late. If you are interested we can send you an application for admission or you can go to www.volstate.edu/admissions. Give us a call in the Admissions Office at 615-230-3689 or you can contact me directly at heather.harper@volstate.edu or 615-230-3684.

Have you already applied to the college and gotten your classes scheduled for the fall, but have some questions relative to the campus? Feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call. I can put you in touch with the right folks!

We look forward to hearing from you. I look forward to seeing more people on campus in the fall. I am ready for school to start!

Help with Fall registration

It's no secret...we put a new computer system online this year, and it's causing some issues for some students. College can seem complicated enough, without throwing another obstacle in your way. So, we've set up help for students who are having trouble registering for fall semester. There are three ways you can do it.

Probably the best way to start is online at our website http://www.volstate.edu/ We have set up a special section that explains possible problems and how to fix them. Most people will find what they need here. Just look on the left hand side of the screen and click on Learn about logging into the new registration system We'll walk you through it step-by-step.

If that doesn't fix it, you can call us on a special help number that we have set up. 230-3532. This number will run from 8am until 4:30pm each weekday until the first week of classes.

The picture here shows a special help desk that we've set up in the Ramer Building on campus. You can find it in the Great Hall. It will be staffed during our normal hours from 8am until 4:30pm each day through the first week off classes.

And if you have any other issues don't forget the Advising Center, also located in the Ramer Building. They can help you with everything you need to get started for fall semester. Now, there is one exception: if you haven't applied to the college yet you should start in Admissions. You can find them right next to Advising in the Ramer Building, or call them at 230-3688. You can also apply online by going to our website. Just click on Admissions.

We hope this helps. We've all been there before as college students ourselves, and we want to make the process as smooth as possible. If you have any other questions or comments feel free to post them here and we'll respond.

Wondering what to do in college?

I overheard an interesting conversation at the barber today. A future Vol State student was getting his hair cut. The stylist asked him what he was going to take and he told her "I have absolutely no idea". This is actually pretty common. There's plenty of folks who know they want to do the college thing, but aren't sure what they want for a major or even what classes seem exciting.

There are some folks that can help you figure it out. Advisors help students with all sorts of issues, and often that's what students think...you only visit an Advisor when you have a problem. That's certainly okay, but feel free to talk to Advisors about anything. They have a bunch of ways to help you figure out possible majors and career paths. They can walk you through the basics of getting started in college, all the way to graduation. And it's not just about school. I know Advisors who have helped students deadling with Divorce and all sorts of personal problems.

Best of all they're a pretty fun bunch. I was taking pictures at the Advising Center today and they are all smiles. You can just walk into the Advising Center in the Ramer Building on the Gallatin campus from 8am until 4:30pm or you can call them at 615-230-3702.
