Give Blood and root for Akeelah

This week at Vol State we give you the opportunity to help your neighbor and see a really great movie. First the helping part: The Red Cross will be at the college on Tuesday for a blood drive.
It will be held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m in the Rochelle Center of the library. The Red Cross says that due in part to the recent tornadoes they are running low on blood. And if you are type O, they are very low and really need the help. The blood drive is open to everyone...students, faculty, staff and people from the community. It only takes a half hour or so.

Ready for a feel good movie? Akeelah and the Bee is the story of a young girl who goes against the odds to enter the world of competitive spelling. You'll be cheering for Akeelah Anderson throughout her quest. The Campus and Cultural Awareness is presenting the film on Wednesday and Thursday at 12:15pm in the Rochelle Center. The movie is only open to Vol State students, faculty and staff.
