Celebrating Vol State Radio WVCP

It was a good day for college radio. Vol State students showed off the new studios at WVCP and everyone gathered for a ribbon cutting. It was all part of a grand reopening celebration at 88.5 FM. Community members, including members of the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce, toured the new radio station home. While WVCP went back on the air quickly after the April 7, 2006 tornado, the studios received major damage in the storm. The new facilities include an on-air studio, newsroom area and production and teaching studio. WVCP has been on the air since 1979. Students are DJs, they read the news and work on productions. Journalism classes also use the studios for broadcast classes in the Communication Program. The station can be heard in a 15 mile radius from the college and online at
