This week at Vol State

Sign up for summer!
Today is the start of summer registration for new and re-admit students. That means that everyone can sign-up for classes. If you are new to the college you'll need to fill out an application first. Visit the Admissions office for help with that. If you need tips of which classes to register for visit the Advising Center. They're both located in the Ramer Building.

Music Department’s Spring Music Showcase-April 25 and 26@ 7:45PM

The sounds of spring will be in the air this weekend as Vol State students take to the stage for the Spring Music Showcase. Pop, jazz and original student songs will be on the set list. The Vol State Showstoppers and the Commercial Music Program team up for the concert each year.

“The Showstoppers are doing a Broadway set from the musical “Les Miserables” as well as a big band swing set of popular songs from the 1940’s,” said Associate Professor James Story, who directs the show.

It’s the premier event for the spring CD release entitled “Wasted Time.” Vol State students not only perform on the CD, they also record and mix the project in the college recording studio.

“It’s a great variety this year,” said Assistant Professor Lynn Peterson, who heads up the project. “There are some nice religious tunes, pop, some rock and roll and even some alternative rock songs. It’s a pretty versatile album.”

The students have set up a MySpace Internet page for the recording project. Songs can be heard at www.myspace.com/volstatemusicproject

The Vol State Spring Music Showcase will take place in the gym in the Pickel Field House. Admission is $5 at the door and $10 for the show and a copy of the CD. All proceeds go to benefit student scholarships. For more information call 615-230-3202.
