From Internship to Employment in Logistics

Vol State students in Logistics and Supply Side Management get practical experience through partnerships with businesses in the area. Often those experiences can lead to employment. Student Bob Wardell tells his story:

The internship / Co-Op program with Vol State and Gap was a fantastic experience. The first part of the program consisted of practical work experience as a merchandise handler in the Southern Distribution Center (SDC). That practical work was then paired with a weekly shadowing session with a managers in different divisions around the campus. Seeing how our work at the SDC related to the overall Logistics landscape on the Gallatin campus was fantastic. As a logistics student, observing how all of the component parts of a Logistics division (transportation, engineering, production, etc) are interdependent with one another in a real world environment was invaluable.

At the conclusion of the program, myself and the other intern, Chris Comstock,  were lucky enough to be offered part time employment at Gap in our same capacity as merchandise handlers. I leaped at the chance to stay on board. Gap is a fantastic company to work for, with many opportunities for the future- both here and abroad. As I continue my education, I look forward to growing with Gap!
