Many of you do not know that Vol State has the Thigpen Library Gallery and the Ramer Great Hall to display art work. In some ways, you can say that Vol State has it's very own art gallery.

"Our goal is to expose our students, faculty, staff, and community at large to local artists,"said Britt Stadig, faculty member of Vol State's Art Department. "We want to demonstrate the diversity, talent, experience, and themes that the artists explore. We try to explore all mediums from sculpture and painting, to digital print making and photography."

The art exhibits range from well-established artists to elementary age artists just starting out on the path to life in the arts.

Currently, the elementary show is located in the Ramer Great Hall and includes art work from students in Sumner County elementary schools.

In April, the Art Department will host their annual VSCC student art exhibit. It will consist of a wide range of art work from paintings, drawings, and photographs.

"We are always pleased and proud to showcase the talents of Vol State's own," said Stadig.

The art work from students will be a juried exhibition. The work will be chosen by an outside and impartial judge who is a professional artist.

Also, you can still check out "Animal Imagery in Art" until April 30th in the Thigpen Library Gallery. This exhibit will be compromised of photographs, painting, prints, graphic design, and sculpture from local exhibiting artists' who explore animal imagery in their work. The exhibit showcases contemporary examples of how artists continue to explore the animal in art.

So whether you are passing through between classes or are just curious about the different pieces of art that will be on display, I'd definitely recommend it.

It is impressive the talent that the elementary students' art  provides as well as the art work from our own students, and professional level artists.
