Important Info for Health Sciences Students, Especially Respiratory Care

All of the Vol State Health Sciences programs have immunization requirements that are above and beyond general college admission.  The clinical sites that students work in, as part of each program, require this process.  Since the students will be working at the health care facility just as a paid employee does, they must adhere to the same guidelines.

This fall the Respiratory Care Program is changing the requirement and students who are applying need to be aware.

Pre-Acceptance Immunizations and Vaccinations (new requirement as of 8/20/15)
*MMR                 *Varicella                           *Hepatitis B                       *Tetanus

Each pre-Respiratory Care student must provide proof of 2 doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine AND the varicella vaccine with each given at least 28 days apart OR documentation of blood test (serology) showing immunity. Pre-Respiratory Care students must provide proof of immunity of Hepatitis B by either submitting documentation of 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, proof that the first injection has been obtained, OR by blood test (serology) showing immunity to Hepatitis B virus. Pre-RPC students must provide documentation of receiving a tetanus vaccination within the last ten years.

For requirements for other Health Sciences program please check the web page for that program. You can find all of them in the A-Z index on the college website at
