Students Hear from Music Industry Leaders

Gaining perspective is always helpful when trying to choose a specific career path, and Volunteer State Community College students had the chance to hear some great advice on how to get ahead from some music industry leaders Tuesday.
Company executives from Solid State Logic, a leading manufacturer of high-end recording consoles, were on hand Tuesday as part of Vol State's Music Business Lecture Series. Don Wershba, senior vice president of North American operations, and Piers Plaskitt, SSL vice president, each gave presentations on the history of the company, and career advice for how to get a job within the industry once students are done with school.
Music production students Taylor Matson and Gamy Ventura said having these types of lectures gives them some insight on what to expect from the very industry they might choose to work in.
"With any job or career, it starts out with opportunities that might have you going outside the lines. It's really a matter of perspective and taking into consideration other people's perspective," Ventura said.
