Use Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is like a study group on steroids. It's offered in some of the tougher Vol State classes. It's a student success program that uses peer-facilitated sessions in a specific class, which integrate both learning strategies and course content, in order to improve student success.

SI Leaders are both current and former students who excelled in a specific class and work directly with class instructors on developing learning strategies for a specific class. SI sessions are usually held once or twice week, and student attendance at SI sessions is voluntary. Students who regularly attend SI sessions for a specific class usually experience higher levels of academic success on both class assignments and tests and final grades.

For more information about SI at Vol State, contact Dr. Scott McMillan at 230-3235 or at scott.mcmillan@volstate.edu.
