Vol State PR hiring paid, part-time, Student Social Media Writer.


The Vol State Public Relations Office is hiring a paid, part-time, Student Social Media Writer.

The position will begin in mid-August 2019 and continue through the end of spring semester 2020. Continuing students may be considered for additional semesters. Only current Vol State students, who will be enrolled in classes for the fall and spring semesters, will be considered for the position.

Position Summary: The student social media writer creates content to increase interest and visits to the Vol State social media sites, including Facebook, the student blog, and Instagram. The content, including coverage of events, campus feature stories, and profiles, will be assigned by the Public Relations Office and also created through story enterprise by the writer. The writer will use guidelines and criteria assigned by the Public Relations Office to create the content. The Public Relations Office will approve stories and posts before they appear. This project will be no more than 15 hours a week.

Duties and Responsibilities: Writing, reporting, and digital photography. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be a current student enrolled at Vol State.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Strong writing and reporting ability. The applicant should feel comfortable using social media web sites. Needs to be comfortable with digital photography and digital information management. Excellent communication, follow up, and organizational skills. Ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment. Must possess the ability to work independently and to be a self-starter.

Pay Rate:
$12.00 per hour

Applicants are required to attach three writing samples as an “other document” in their online application. Writing samples can be articles for the student newspaper, blog posts or other social media conducted for a business or non-profit project. If those are not available we will also accept assignments for classes. Please put them in PDF or Word form for uploading.
