Vol State is issuing this statement in response to recent events:
“In light of the surge
of violence against Asian and Pacific Islander persons and the tragic
revelation of the murders in the Atlanta metro area killing eight people,
six of whom were Asians, our Vol State community must state in a clear and
concise language our rejection of these horrendous acts and our support for our
Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Since the start of the COVID-19
pandemic, inflammatory and xenophobic rhetoric, harassment, and violence
against Asian and Pacific Islander persons, families, and communities has
increased, especially towards women.”
“Advancing racial
equity and economic inclusion for people of all races and ethnicities is
critical to guaranteeing the safety and security of everyone. Thus, Volunteer
State Community College stands firm and resolute in our support of
our Asian and Pacific Islander communities and will not tolerate any words
or actions by any students, faculty, or staff, which may serve to denigrate
these communities.”
Vol State
has always stood against racism and in support of diversity, equity, equality,
and inclusion. It is one of our core values. Please read our statement
on racism which can be found at https://www.volstate.edu/news/we-publicly-affirm-our-identity-anti-racist-academic-institution
