Dr. Orinthia T. Montague Visits Vol State for Presidential Interviews

The search for the next president of Vol State has advanced to three finalists. They are visiting the Gallatin campus this week for a series of interviews and forums.

Dr. Orinthia T. Montague, president of Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, New York visited Wednesday. She shared her path as the daughter of immigrants and the challenges she faced as a struggling student in higher education. She discussed creating a Mental Health Center on the campus of her current college and how important flexibility in educational methods is for students these days. Students and the community can participate in the afternoon forum, either in person at Caudill Hall or via Zoom. The time will be the same for each candidate and held from 3pm to 4pm each day. Dr. Irene Rios, chief executive officer of Suffolk County Community College’s Ammerman Campus in Suffolk County, New York will visit Thursday. Dr. Jothany Blackwood, vice president for academic success at San Antonio College in San Antonio, Texas visited Tuesday.
